School Facilities Data Working Group

Purpose: School facilities data matter because school facilities matter. Adequate and appropriate learning environments are essential to successful teaching and learning, and providing those instructional settings is a significant component of a school district’s core responsibilities. In fact, elementary and secondary schools often represent the largest public building inventory in a community and there is a growing body of research that recognizes the effects of school facilities on the security, health, and educational opportunities of students and school staff. With this in mind, the Forum School Facilities Data Working Group is developing a document that will provide best practice recommendations for the design, development, implementation, and use of facilities management information systems, along with a list of standard data elements.

Current Tasks: The School Facilities Data Working Group is currently updating and expanding the information in the 2012 Forum resource Forum Guide to Facilities Information Management: A Resource for State and Local Education Agencies.
