Includes imputations for public school prekindergarten enrollment in California and Oregon.
Includes enrollments in local public school systems and in most private schools (religiously affiliated and nonsectarian). Excludes homeschooled children who were not also enrolled in public and private schools. Private elementary enrollment includes preprimary students in schools offering kindergarten or higher grades.
Estimated.
Includes prorated proportion of students classified as ungraded. The total ungraded counts of students were prorated to the elementary level (prekindergarten to grade 8) and the secondary level (grades 9 to 12) based on prior reports.
In addition to students in grades 9 to 12 and ungraded secondary students, includes a small number of students reported as being enrolled in grade 13.
Data are actual.
NOTE: Postsecondary data for 1990 are for institutions of higher education, while later data are for degree-granting institutions. Degree-granting institutions grant associate’s or higher degrees and participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding. Some data have been revised from previously published figures.
