The initial student weight is computed in order to facilitate student nonresponse adjustment. It includes the school base weight, two school-level adjustments (one for trimming and one for nonresponse), and certain student-level components that reflect the student sampling rates within each school as noted below. It may be helpful to think of the initial student weight as a student base weight with additional components for school trimming and school nonresponse.
The initial student weight STU_WT is calculated as follows:
STU_WT = SCHBWT x SCH_TRIM x SCH_NRAF x STUSA_WT x OLAP_FC x YRRND_FC
where
SCHBWT = school base weight,
SCH_TRIM = school trimming adjustment,
SCH_NRAF = school nonresponse adjustment,
STUSA_WT = within-school student sampling weight,
OVLAP_FC = state assessment overlap adjustment, and
YRRND_FC = year-round school adjustment.
