Distance Learning Dataset Training

The Distance Learning Dataset Training System, or DLDT, provides information about the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) datasets and the tools that users need in order to find published reports, explore and acquire data, create data files, and conduct analyses in selected statistical software packages. The DLDT allows you to access the information you need, at your own pace. It provides instruction in how to properly use NCES public-use and restricted-use datasets.

There are two types of NCES DLDT modules that are available: Common modules and survey-specific modules. The common modules help you understand NCES data across the education spectrum. They provide general information about NCES, its research methods, the Center’s surveys, published data products and reports, and how to access public- and restricted-use datasets. The survey-specific modules present more detailed information about specific studies conducted by NCES, and how to use and analyze the datasets appropriately. Survey-specific modules are currently available for the following surveys: the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Birth Cohort (ECLS-B); the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Kindergarten Class of 1998-1999 (ECLS-K); the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09); the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS); the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS); the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA); the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS); the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS), and the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B).
