The exhibit below provides an overview of federal data collections that include questions on education, training, and non-degree credentials for work. Links are provided to questionnaire items and instruments; where instruments are not available, links are provided to the data collection websites. Please note that because most of these data collections are on-going or are pilot studies (for which no data are released), data are currently available only for Wave 13 of the 2008 Survey of Income and Program Participation.

Education Longitudinal Study (ELS), NCES, ED Summer 2012-Spring 2013 (Winter 2014) Cohort of students who were in grade 10 in 2002 (Class of '04) CATI and web 10-year longitudinal study Seven questions included in last follow-up, when students were about 26. Link to ELS website.
Baccalaureate and Beyond (B&B), NCES, ED Fall-Winter 2012 (Winter 2014) 2007-08 Bachelor's degree recipients CATI and web 10-year longitudinal; new cohort every 8 yrs. Two questions included in 2012 follow-up (2nd of 3 follow-ups). Link to B&B website.
Beginning Postsecondary Students Survey (BPS), NCES, ED 2014 (planned) (2016) Postsecondary students enrolled for first time in 2011-12 CATI and web 6-year longitudinal; new cohort every 8 yrs. Two questions will be included in 2014 follow-up (1st of 2 follow-ups). Link to BPS website.
National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG), National Science Foundation 2015 (planned) (2016) Adults under age 76 with at least a bachelor's degree prior to 2014 Mailout and web, with CATI follow-up 4-cycle biennial rotating panel; new cohort every 2 yrs Questions are being tested. Decision on inclusion in 2015 instrument to be made in July 2014. Link to NSCG website.
Credentials for Work Survey (CWS) within the National Household Education Survey (NHES), NCES, ED 2015 (planned) (2017) Adults in households, ages 16-65 Mailout Cross-sectional survey with periodic administra-tion (periodicity TBD) OMB Clearance Package is open for public comment through July 7, 2014. High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), 3rd Follow-up, NCES, ED 2016 (planned) (2018) Cohort of students who were in grade 9 in 2009 (Class of '13) CATI and web 12-year longitudinal study Questions (TBD) will be included in 2nd follow-up, when students are about 20. Link to HSLS website.

Adult Training and Education Study (ATES) Pilot test 2010 2013 Adults in households, ages 16 or older CATI One time This was the first study to field test new items on certificates, certifcation, and licensure. Findings are available in the ATES report. The ATES questionnaire is included in Appendix E of the report.
National Adult Training and Education Survey (NATES) 2013 (Summer 2014) Adults in households, ages 16-65 Mailout One time This was a response rate study to test the feasibility of a mailout administration. Link to instrument.
Adult Training and Education Survey (ATES) feasibility study (within the NCES National Household Education Survey (NHES) 2014 (2015) Adults in households, ages 16-65 Mailout One time This study tests the feasibility of including an adult data collection within the NHES program. The study is fielding a revison of the original ATES instrument, as well as a shorter "Credentials for Work Survey" (CWS) instrument. Link to NHES website. Link to 2014 ATES questionnaire.
