Percentages of children enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade by school type: 2012

School Type Percent Standard Error
Public, Assigned 77.6 0.49
Public, Chosen 13.7 0.42
Private 8.7 0.26
NOTE: The data from which these estimates are based were collected from the Parent and Family Involvement Survey (PFI) and reported by parents of children aged 3-20 enrolled in public or private school. It excludes data from children reported to be homeschooled on the screener. Parents were asked to report the type of school the child attends (i.e., private-Catholic, private-religious, not Catholic, private-not religious, or public). If they reported that the child attends public school they were also asked whether the school was the child’s regularly assigned school and whether the school is a charter school. If a parent reported their child attended a public charter school, they were classified as attending a public chosen school.
