NOTE: Core Based Statistical Area (CBSA) associated with school districts indicate that the district's address is associated with a recognized population nucleus and adjacent communities that have a high degree of integration with that nucleus, and designated by the U.S. Government as a metropolitan or micropolitan statistical area. These data are aggregated from school district level reporting. School district CBSA based on the CBSA assignment of incorporated schools, weighted by school membership counts. The 100 CBSAs were defined as CBSAs with the largest enrollments in the 2009–10 school year. Due to incompatible data relating to Core Based Statistical Area (CBSA) and New England City and Town Area (NECTA) codes, data were aggregated for 2005–06 and 2006–07 using the CBSA codes assigned based on the 2007–08 school year's data. Data include all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Bureau of Indian Education.
