NOTE: Instructional levels are
Primary (low grade Prekindergarten to 3, high grade up to 8); Middle (low
grade 4 to 7, high grade 4 to 9); High (low grade 7 to 12, high grade
12 only); Other (any configuration not falling within the previous three,
including ungraded schools). For states that did not provide
a grade span, grade span was determined by the highest and lowest grades
in which students were reported. U.S. totals include the 50
states and the District of Columbia. If all schools were ranked by student/teacher
ratio from smallest to the largest, half of the schools would fall below
the median. For example, half the primary schools in Alabama
had a student/teacher ratio of less than 14.7. |
