These tables present trends over a 16-year period using data from four administrations of the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study: NPSAS:1995-96, 1999-2000, 2003-04, 2007-08, and 2011-12. For each of these years, tables show financial aid awards and price of attendance for undergraduate students attending postsecondary institutions in the United States. Detailed topics include price of attendance—total, and net prices (price minus grant aid, and price minus all aid, or what is referred to as out-of-pocket expenses), tuition and fees, type of financial aid received from federal, state, and institutional sources, and students' financial need. All statistics are shown in total and by enrollment and demographic characteristics such as sex, race/ethnicity, age, dependency status, family income, attendance status, and type of institution attended.
