The data for this search tool comes from the 22,451 schools that responded to the 2017-2018 Private School Universe Survey (PSS) conducted by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.

You can find out more about the survey itself in the report "Characteristics of Private Schools in the United States: Results from the 2017-18 Private School Universe Survey" (NCES 2019-071). For schools not found by this search tool you can request their inclusion in future PSS (request to add school).

Note - the Private School Survey is conducted on a biennial basis in the fifty states and the District of Columbia. Schools from the U.S. outlying areas (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marianas, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) are not included.
