NOTE: Adults are ages 25 to 64 and not enrolled in high school. The total number of adults in the labor force is approximately 121,593,000, the total number of adults in the labor force who completed a work experience program is approximately 29,045,000, and the total number of adults in the labor force who did not complete a work experience program is approximately 92,547,000. The combined unemployment and underemployment rate is calculated as [(number of adults who are not working but looking for work) + (number of adults who are employed part time only but would prefer to work full time or are working in a temporary job but would prefer a permanent job)]/[(number of adults who are working) + (number of adults who are not working but looking for work)]. A work experience program is defined in the survey as an internship, co-op, practicum, clerkship, externship, residency, clinical experience, apprenticeship, or similar program. | ||||||||
