The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) Civic Education Study was a cooperative international effort involving the IEA, national research institutes in participating countries, the Humbolt University of Berlin (the International Coordinating Center), and the International Steering Committee. IEA Headquarters and the Data Processing Center in Hamburg are overseeing the preparation and dissemination of the international data set.

The Center for the IEA Civic Education Study, in the Department of Human Development at the University of Maryland at College Park, has supported the work of the International Steering Committee and its Chair, Judith Torney-Purta, since 1994. The Center's continuing mission is to promote the dissemination of findings and advance research on civic knowledge and engagement based on the study.
