Title: Monetary Incentives for Low-Stakes Tests
Description: This Research and Development report documents the findings of an experiment to examine the impact of monetary incentives on student effort and performance. The study arose from a concern that the poor performance of U.S. 12th grade students on low-stakes assessments may be partially explained as motivational. It used an experimental design with 12th graders taking TIMSS assessment items to test the assumption that a sufficient monetary incentive would increase student effort and therefore improve student performance.
