NCES 2018021 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2015 U.S. public-use datafile
This datafile contains the U.S. TIMSS 2015 data, including data that were collected only in the United States and not included on the international database available from the IEA. The additional data relate to the race and ethnicity of students and the percentage of students in a school eligible for the Federal free and reduced-price lunch program, among other variables. This datafile is intended to be used in conjunction with the international datafile available from the IEA.

A User Guide to the data is included in the U.S. TIMSS 2015 and TIMSS Advanced 1995 & 2015 Technical Report, which is available online separately (publication number 2018020).

NCES 2018022 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2015 U.S. restricted-use datafile
This datafile contains school IDs that can be linked to the public-use U.S. TIMSS 2015 datafile to allow for merging with data from the Common Core of Data (CCD) and Private School Universe Survey (PSS). This datafile can only be obtained by those who apply for a restricted-use license through NCES. Information on how to merge the restricted-use datafile with the U.S. TIMSS 2015 public-use datafile is included.

A User Guide to the data is included in the U.S. TIMSS 2015 and TIMSS Advanced 1995 & 2015 Technical Report, which is available online separately (publication number 2018020).

NCES 2017095 Technical Report and User Guide for the 2015 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA)
This technical report and user guide is designed to provide researchers with an overview of the design and implementation of PISA 2015 in the United States, as well as information on how to access the PISA 2015 data. The report includes information about sampling requirements and sampling in the United States; participation rates at the school and student level; how schools and students were recruited; instrument development; field operations used for collecting data; detail concerning various aspects of data management, including data processing, scaling, and weighting. In addition, the report describes the data available from both international and U.S. sources, special issues in analyzing the PISA 2015 data, as well as a description of merging data files.

NCES 2017120 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2015 United States public-use data files
The data files include the U.S. PISA 2015 data files for students, teachers, and principals/schools, and include additional variables only available at the national level (e.g., student race/ethnicity). The public-use data files can be downloaded and analyzed by researchers interested in conducting secondary analyses. In addition to the U.S. data files, the product also includes a README file, illustrative merge code, a Quick Guide, variable codebooks, SAS and SPSS control files, and record layout files. The data files are presented in ASCII, and can be imported into any number of statistical programs, such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA. These public-use data files can be used on their own or merged with the international PISA database available for download from the OECD PISA website at http://www.oecd.org/pisa/data/. NCES 2016058REV Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) 2014: U.S. National Supplement Restricted Use Data Files-Prison
The 2014 PIAAC U.S. Prison Study Restricted Use File (RUF) contains individual unit record data including responses to both the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment from the data collection completed in 2014. Statistical disclosure control treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. In addition to the variables in the Prison Study PUF (NCES 2016-337REV), the RUF contains detailed versions of variables and additional data collected through U.S. specific questionnaire routing. The RUF can be accessed through a restricted use license agreement with the National Center for Education Statistics. For more details on the RUF, please refer to Appendix E of the U.S. PIAAC Technical Report 2012/2014 (NCES 2016-036REV).

NCES 2016667REV Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) 2012/2014: U.S. National Supplement Public Use Data Files-Household
The PIAAC 2012/14 U.S. PUF contains individual unit record data including both responses to the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment from both the first and second U.S. PIAAC data collections, completed in 2012 and 2014, respectively. In September 2017, the PUF was reissued, with an Errata Sheet detailing the revisions. Statistical disclosure control treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. Statistical disclosure control treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. In addition to the variables in the PUF (NCES 2014-045REV), the RUF contains detailed versions of variables and additional data collected through U.S. specific questionnaire routing. The RUF can be accessed through a restricted use license agreement with the National Center for Education Statistics. For more details on the RUF, please refer to Appendix J of the U.S. PIAAC Technical Report (NCES 2014-047).

Important note to users:

These original 2012 data have been updated, reweighted, and revised with the release of the PIAAC 2012/2014 restricted-use dataset (NCES 2016-668). That dataset should be used for analyses instead of this original version unless you are seeking to reproduce historic analyses.
