NCES 2020088 Public-Use Data Files and Documentation (FRSS 109): 2018-19 Teachers' Use of Technology for School and Homework Assignments
This product contains data from a Fast Response Survey System (FRSS) survey titled "2018-19 Teachers' Use of Technology for School and Homework Assignments." This survey provides nationally representative data on public school teachers about their understanding of the types of devices and technologies that students use for educational purposes, the impact that student access to technology outside of school has on homework assignments, and ways that schools and teachers address challenges that students with limited access to technology face in completing homework assignments. Data were collected in the 2018-19 school year, the year before the coronavirus pandemic outbreak in 2020. It focuses on information that can best be provided by teachers from their perspective and direct interaction with students.

The survey provides nationally representative data of public school teachers who taught at least one regularly scheduled class in grades 3–12 and taught either self-contained classes or departmentalized classes in one or more of the core subjects of English/language arts, social studies/social science, math, or science. Data were provided by approximately 2,900 teachers from sampled from 1,600 schools. Computers were defined to include desktop and laptop computers, as well as tablets with a virtual or physical keyboard. Smartphones were not included in the definition of computers, but separate information was collected for smartphones.

Documentation provides information about the purpose of the study, the sample design, the data collection procedures, the data processing procedures, response rates, imputation, weighting and standard error calculation and use, the data files and codebooks, and the file layout of the ASCII data file. The ASCII data and a SAS version of the data file are also provided.

The data file provides data obtained during the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) Postsecondary Education Transcript Study and Student Financial Aid Records Collection (PETS-SR). HSLS:09 follows a nationally representative sample of students who were ninth-graders in fall 2009 from high school into postsecondary education and the workforce. The PETS-SR data collection was conducted between spring 2017 and fall 2018, approximately 4 years after high school graduation for most of the cohort. These data allow researchers to examine postsecondary coursetaking experiences and financial aid awards for the subset of fall 2009 ninth-graders who enrolled in postsecondary education after high school.

NCES 2020321 2017-18 National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS) Restricted-Use Data Files
This DVD contains the 2017-18 National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS) restricted-use data files. The 6 files (Public School Principal, Private School Principal, Public School, Private School, Public School Teacher, and Private School Teacher) are provided in multiple formats. The DVD also contains a 4-volume User's Manual, which includes a codebook for each file.

NCES 2020122 2019-20 Common Core of Data (CCD) Preliminary Directory Files
On July 7th, 2020, the National Center for Education Statistics released the 2019-20 Common Core of Data (CCD) Preliminary Directory Files. These files are the product of the CCD data collection for the 2019-20 school year. Data are reported at district and school levels as of October 1, 2019. The preliminary directory files include basic identifying information for each public school and local education agency (LEA), including the NCES identification numbers, location and mailing address and some limited attributes about the school or LEA, such as type, operational status, the lowest and highest grade offered. The preliminary directories do not include aggregated demographic information such as student enrollment or teacher and staff counts. For the preliminary directory, NCES has only conducted a limited review of the files. It is meant to provide data users with a more timely release of basic information for school and LEA. The full CCD universe for SY 2019-20 (which will include demographic information) will be published in Spring 2021.

NCES 2020150 2018-19 Common Core of Data (CCD) Universe Files
On April 1, 2020, the National Center for Education Statistics released the 2018-19 Common Core of Data (CCD) Universe Files. These files are the product of the Common Core of Data (CCD) data collection for the 2018-19 school year. Data are reported at state, district, and school levels and include staff counts by professional category, and student membership disaggregated by grade, race/ethnicity, and sex. Also included are school-level counts of student eligible for free and reduced-price lunches.

This is the restricted-use microdata to B&B:16/17 which looks at the Class of 2016 one year after graduation in 2017.

The Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B) examines students' education and work experiences after they complete a bachelor’s degree, with a special emphasis on the experiences of new elementary and secondary teachers.

The PIAAC U.S. 2012/2014/2017 Restricted Use File (RUF) consists of data from the PIAAC combined 2012/2014/2017 household sample. It contains data for individuals including responses to the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment. Statistical confidentiality treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. The RUF can be accessed through a restricted use license agreement with the National Center for Education Statistics. NCES 2020222 Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) U.S. 2017 Sample Public-use File (PUF)
The PIAAC U.S. 2017 public-use file (PUF) contains individual unit data including both responses to the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment from the third U.S. PIAAC data collection, completed in 2017. Statistical disclosure control treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. For more details on the PUF, please refer to Appendix E of the U.S. PIAAC Technical Report (NCES 2020-224).

NCES 2020223 Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) U.S. 2017 Sample Restricted-Use File (RUF)
The PIAAC U.S. 2017 Restricted-use File (RUF) consists of data from the PIAAC 2017 household sample. It contains data for individuals including responses to the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment. Statistical confidentiality treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. In addition to the variables in the public use file, the RUF contains detailed versions of variables and additional data collected through U.S. specific questionnaire routing. The RUF can be accessed through a restricted-use license agreement with the National Center for Education Statistics. NCES 2020224 U.S. Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) 2012/2014/2017: Main Study, National Supplement, and PIAAC 2017 Technical Report
The Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is a large-scale international study of working-age adults (ages 16–65) that assesses adult skills in three domains (literacy, numeracy, and digital problem solving) and collects information on adults’ education, work experience, and other background characteristics.

Three data collection efforts are described in this web-based technical report: the U.S. PIAAC 2012 Main Study (5,000 respondents), the U.S. PIAAC 2014 National Supplement (3,660 respondents), and the PIAAC 2017 (3,600 respondents).

The technical report is designed to provide researchers with an overview of the design and implementation of PIAAC in the United States. The report includes detailed information on sample design, survey instruments, the data collection procedures, data quality, weighting, scaling, and data analysis. In addition, a user guide is included that provides information to help support analysis of the data.

NCES 2019060 National Household Education Surveys Program of 2016: Supplementary Geocode Files for the Parent and Family Involvement in Education Survey, Early Childhood Program Participation Survey, and Adult Training and Education Survey
National Household Education Surveys Program of 2016: Supplementary Restricted-Use Geocode Data for the Parent and Family Involvement in Education, Early Childhood Program Participation, and Adult Training and Education Surveys are available through an NCES restricted-use data license. Variables are drawn from administrative and survey data from NCES and other federal agencies (primarily data from the Census Bureau) to expand the analytic utility of NHES:2016 data. The supplementary data include geographic identifiers down to the census block group and identifiers for a child’s assigned public school district. The files also include measures based on radii around a respondent’s home for access to different education programs and schools. While additional geographic characteristic information is provided, the data support estimates of national-level characteristics and not subnational geographies like states or specific localities. The additional geocode data can be used to produce nationally representative estimates or national-level subgroup analyses such as schooling experiences of students living in low-population density areas with high employment rates across the U.S. but not schooling experiences of students in a specific rural area.

NCES 2020504 2012-17 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study restricted-use data
BPS:12/17 is the second data release for a study of a nationally representative sample of first-time beginning postsecondary students who were surveyed 3 times over 6 academic years, 2011-12 through 2016-17. These restricted-use data files will be available to those with a restricted-use data license and include detailed information about student demographics, enrollment patterns, attainment, early employment, and changes over time in education and career goals for over 22,000 respondents.
