NOTE: College readiness benchmark scores are based on the actual performance of
college students and are the minimum ACT subject-area scores associated with a 50
percent chance of earning at least a B or a 75 percent chance of earning at least
a C in corresponding college classes. English scores predict performance in English
composition, mathematics scores predict performance in algebra, reading scores predict
performance in social sciences, and science scores predict performance in biology.
Estimates are based on all students who took the ACT assessment during their sophomore,
junior, or senior year, and who graduated from high school in the spring of 2008.
Test-takers were asked to self-identify a single racial/ethnic group. Race categories
exclude persons of Hispanic ethnicity.
