† Not applicable. For magnet and charter schools, district does not administer this type of school.
1 Totals do not include those districts where data were not available.
2 One charter school in Washoe County School District, Nevada, reported student membership of zero.
NOTE: The universe for this table includes all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, four outlying areas (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marianas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Department of Defense schools. Table includes only charter schools administered by the school district. Charter schools located in the same geographic area as a district's schools but not administered by the district itself are not included. For example, 37 charter schools were located in the District of Columbia in 2003–04, but each was reported as a separate agency.
