Title: Constructed Response Tests in the NELS:88 High School Effectiveness Study
Description: This report describes an experiment in constructed response testing undertaken in conjunction with the National Education Longitudinal Study of 1988 (NELS:88). The experiment was designed to explore the practical and psychometric issues involved in using constructed response test formats in the context of a large-scale, voluntary national survey. This report also describes the objectives and issures involved in the development of the constructed response tests, and on the steps taken to address these issues. Finally, this report concludes with a summary of the major issues and results, and with a description of the data file that will be made available to researchers wishing to conduct further investigations.
