3 Education administration preparation programs must align with Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards. No state policy was found for additional state requirements.
4 The traditional pathway to state accreditation and program approval requires programs to align with CAEP standards and receive accompanying accreditation.
5 The main route to certification for school leaders is through the state department of education's Hawaii Certification Institute for School Leaders (HICISL). The two-year HICISL program includes coaching, coursework and residency components.
6 The Commissioner may waive the requirements, with the exception of a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills Test, for candidates with significant leadership or managerial experience who meet standards through both experience and formal education.
