11 = 4-year public in 2022-23; 2 = 2-year public in 2022-23; 3 = 4-year private nonprofit in 2022-23; and 4 = 2-year private nonprofit in 2022-23.
2Includes U.S. nonresident students as well as U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
3Asian and Pacific Islander headcount enrollment (U.S. citizens and permanent residents only) as a percentage of total headcount enrollment of nonresident students as well as U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
4Includes Ph.D., Ed.D., and comparable degrees at the doctoral level, as well as such degrees as M.D., D.D.S., and law degrees that were classified as first-professional degrees prior to 2010-11.
NOTE: Degree-granting institutions grant associate’s or higher degrees and participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE), Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions Division identifies and publishes Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) eligibility annually. Generally, an AANAPISI has an enrollment of undergraduate students that is at least 10 percent Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander and satisfies criteria for percentage of needy students and expenditures per full-time-equivalent undergraduate student. This table includes only institutions that are identified as eligible AANAPISIs by OPE and are included in the IPEDS enrollment data collection. Data for Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander individuals include only persons who were U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students for whom race/ethnicity was unknown were allocated to the reported race/ethnicity categories using the known proportion of students in those other reported race/ethnicity categories.
