11 = 4-year public in 2022-23; 2 = 2-year public in 2022-23; 3 = 4-year private nonprofit in 2022-23; 4 = 2-year private nonprofit in 2022-23.
2Includes U.S. nonresident students as well as U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
3Includes undergraduate as well as postbaccalaureate students.
4Hispanic headcount enrollment (U.S. citizens and permanent residents only) as a percentage of total headcount enrollment of U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
5Includes Ph.D., Ed.D., and comparable degrees at the doctoral level, as well as such degrees as M.D., D.D.S., and law degrees that were classified as first-professional degrees prior to 2010-11.
NOTE: Degree-granting institutions grant associate’s or higher degrees and participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE), Hispanic-Serving Institutions Division identifies and publishes Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) eligibility annually. Generally, an HSI has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time-equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic and satisfies criteria for percentage of needy students and expenditures per full-time-equivalent undergraduate student. This table includes only institutions that are identified as eligible HSIs by OPE and are included in the IPEDS enrollment data collection. The table excludes 3 institutions from the OPE HSI list that are branch campuses who do not report disaggregated data to IPEDS, have closed, or are no longer Title IV institutions. The table also excludes 1 institution (City College, Fort Lauderdale) that was included in the OPE HSI list but was reported as a for-profit institution in 2022-23; for-profit institutions are ineligible for HSI grants, but fiscal year 2023 eligibility was determined by previous year (2021-22) institutional characteristics. Data for Hispanic individuals include only persons who were U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students for whom race/ethnicity was unknown were allocated to the reported race/ethnicity categories using the known proportion of students in those other reported race/ethnicity categories.
