†Not applicable.
1Primarily online institutions have more than 90 percent of students enrolled in exclusively distance education courses in the fall term.
2Other institutions may offer distance education courses without being primarily online institutions.
3Includes only institutions reporting enrollment data in fall 2022.
4Race/ethnicity not collected.
5Includes Ph.D., Ed.D., and comparable degrees at the doctoral level, as well as such degrees as M.D., D.D.S., and law degrees that were classified as first-professional degrees prior to 2010-11.
NOTE: Data in this table represent the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Data are for degree-granting institutions and U.S. service academies. Degree-granting institutions grant associate’s or higher degrees and participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. Enrollment data for students not reported by race/ethnicity were prorated based on the known racial/ethnic composition of the institution each of these students was enrolled in. Degree counts are limited to degree-granting institutions as classified in the fall following the reported data year. A small number of current non-degree-granting institutions could have awarded associate’s degrees to students in the prior year, but these counts are excluded from this table. Race categories exclude persons of Hispanic ethnicity.
