#Rounds to zero.
1High- and low-poverty districts represent the top and bottom quarters, respectively. Quarters were calculated based on ranking local education agencies by poverty rate, calculated as the percentage of children ages 5-17 in families living below the poverty level. Quarters are weighted by children in poverty: Each quarter contains approximately the same number of children ages 5-17 in families living below the poverty level. Only school districts in both the "School District Finance Survey (F-33)" and the "Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates" data files with student membership greater than zero and reporting fiscal data are included in this table. The low-poverty level consists of districts with the lowest percentages of poor 5- to 17-year-olds (less than 13.7 percent); the middle-low-poverty level consists of districts with 13.7 percent to less than 19.1 percent of poor 5- to 17-year-olds; the middle-high-poverty level consists of districts with 19.1 percent to less than 25.5 percent of poor 5- to 17-year-olds; and the high-poverty level consists of districts with the highest percentages of poor 5- to 17-year-olds (25.5 percent or more). District poverty levels were determined based on family incomes in unadjusted dollars.
2Total current expenditures per pupil include regional educational service agency current expenditures made on behalf of the school district, which are not reported separately in this table.
3Includes expenditures for administrative, guidance, health, and logistical support that enhance instruction; attendance, social work, student accounting, counseling, student appraisal, information, record maintenance, and placement services; and medical, dental, nursing, psychological, and speech services.
4Includes expenditures for curriculum development, staff training, supervision of instruction service improvements, academic assessment, and media, library, and instruction-related technology services.
5Includes business support services concerned with paying, transporting, exchanging, and maintaining goods and services for local education agencies; central support services, including planning, research, evaluation, information, staff, and data processing services; and other support services.
6Includes expenditures for operations funded by sales of products or services (e.g., school bookstore or computer time).
NOTE: Data in this table represent the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Totals include data for school districts with missing locale information. Includes only current expenditures for schools. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding.
