The compulsory ages are from Education at a Glance 2021 and may have changed over time. For federal countries, where subnational entities set compulsory ages, there is a range of ages.
Ending age of compulsory education is the age at which compulsory schooling ends.
Refers to the mean of the data values for all reporting Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, to which each country reporting data contributes equally. The average includes all current OECD countries for which a given year's data are available, even if they were not members of OECD in that year.
Countries reporting an age range are excluded from the OECD average calculation.
Excludes the German-Speaking Community of Belgium.
Excludes 3-year-olds.
NOTE: For each country, this table shows the number of persons in each age group who are enrolled in that country as a percentage of that country's total population in the specified age group. If a country enrolls many residents of other countries, the country's total population in the specified age group can be smaller than the total number enrolled, resulting in enrollment rate estimates exceeding 100 percent. Enrollment rates exceeding 100 percent have been capped at 100 percent in this table. Conversely, if a country has many residents who are enrolled outside of the country, the country's enrollment rates may be underestimated. Enrollment rate estimates can also be affected if population and enrollment data were collected at different times. Includes both full-time and part-time students, such as students who are enrolled in regular schools for a fraction of their time and receiving education in other forms for the remaining time. Some data have been revised from previously published figures.
