Students who are enrolled by their parents or guardians in regular private schools and have their basic education paid through private resources but receive special education services at public expense. These students are not included under "Regular school, time inside general class."
The 2016 and 2017 rows as well as 2018 and 2019 sections include fall 2015 data for 6- to 21-year-olds in Wisconsin because fall 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 data were not available for children served in Wisconsin.
The 2017 row includes fall 2016 data for 6- to 21-year-olds in Maine and Vermont because fall 2017 data were not available for children served in those states.
Although federal law does not require that states/entities and local education agencies categorize children according to developmental delay, if this category is required by state law, they are expected to report these children in the developmental delay category.
Other health impairments include having limited strength, vitality, or alertness due to chronic or acute health problems such as a heart condition, tuberculosis, rheumatic fever, nephritis, asthma, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, epilepsy, lead poisoning, leukemia, or diabetes.
The 2019 and 2020 data by educational environment and disability type for Iowa are imputed based on the reported fall 2018 percentage distribution by educational environment and disability type applied to the fall 2019 and 2020 total number of children served in Iowa.
The 2020 data include fall 2019 data for 5- to 21-year-olds in Louisiana because fall 2020 data were not available for children served in Louisiana.
NOTE: Data in this table represent the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Prior to 2019, "school-aged children" included in this table were students ages 6 to 21. Due to changes in reporting requirements in the fall 2019 data collection, the number of 6- to 21-year-olds served may include some 5-year-olds enrolled in kindergarten. Starting in the fall 2020 data collection, school-age children include 6- to 21-year-olds and 5-year-olds enrolled in kindergarten. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding.
