The compulsory ages are from Education at a Glance 2020 and may have changed over time. For federal countries, where subnational entities set compulsory ages, there is a range of ages.
Ending age of compulsory education is the age at which compulsory schooling ends.
Refers to the mean of the data values for all reporting Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, to which each country reporting data contributes equally. The average includes all current OECD countries for which a given year's data are available, even if they were not members of OECD in that year.
Excludes the German-Speaking Community of Belgium.
Includes 15- to 17-year-olds enrolled in primary education.
NOTE: For each country, this table shows the number of persons in each age group who are enrolled in that country as a percentage of that country's total population in the specified age group. However, some of a country's population may be enrolled in a different country, and some persons enrolled in the country may be residents of a different country. Enrollment rates may be underestimated for countries such as Luxembourg that are net exporters of students and may be overestimated for countries that are net importers. If a country enrolls many residents of other countries, the country's total population in the specified age group can be smaller than the total number enrolled, resulting in enrollment rate estimates exceeding 100 percent. Enrollment rates exceeding 100 percent have been capped at 100 percent in this table. Some data have been revised from previously published figures.
