| 1 The event dropout rate is the percentage of 15- to 24-year-olds in grades 10 through 12 who dropped out between one October and the next (e.g., the 2014 data refer to 10th- through 12th-graders who were enrolled in October 2013 but had dropped out by October 2014). Dropping out is defined as leaving school without a high school diploma or alternative credential such as a GED certificate. | ||||||||||||||||||

| NOTE: Data are based on sample surveys of the civilian noninstitutionalized population, which excludes persons in prisons, persons in the military, and other persons not living in households. Because of changes in data collection procedures, data for 1992 and later years may not be comparable with figures for prior years. Beginning in 2010, standard errors were computed using replicate weights, which produced more precise values than the generalized variance function methodology used in prior years. Race categories exclude persons of Hispanic ethnicity. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding. | ||||||||||||||||||
