#Rounds to zero. NOTE: If the respondent did not provide a value for the total number of specified incidents at their school, the value was imputed to equal the number of specified incidents reported to police. Values associated with violent incidents, serious violent incidents, total incidents and other incidents were obtained by adding the post-imputed values that comprise each of the preceding composite variables. The population counts on SSCOCS 2000 exclude all schools in outlying U.S. territories, nonregular schools such as special education, vocational, alternative/other schools, ungraded schools and schools with a high grade of Kindergarten or lower. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding. "At school/at your school" was defined for respondents as including activities happening in school buildings, on school grounds, on school buses, and at places that are holding school-sponsored events or activities. Respondents were instructed to, unless the survey specified otherwise, only respond for those times that were during normal school hours or when school activities/events were in session. Elementary schools are defined as schools in which the lowest grade is not higher than grade 3 and the highest grade is not higher than grade 8. Middle schools are defined as schools in which the lowest grade is not lower than grade 4 and the highest grade is not higher than grade 9. Secondary schools are defined as schools in which the lowest grade is not lower than grade 9 and the highest grade is not higher than grade 12. Combined schools include all other combinations of grades, including K-12 schools.
