Includes branch campuses. Beginning in 1980, total includes some schools accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. Beginning in 1996-97, data for institutions of higher education are for degree-granting institutions. Degree-granting institutions include those institutions which award degrees at the associate level or higher and were eligible to participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs.
