The public school frame for the arts assessment contained approximately 11,200 schools. The estimated eighth-grade enrollment (unweighted) for these schools was 1.87 million and the estimated eighth-grade enrollment (weighted) was 3.75 million. The unweighted estimated enrollment is restricted to the selected primary sampling units (PSUs) for the arts. The weighted estimated enrollment incorporates the PSU weight (inverse of the probability of selecting the PSU), and thus is a national estimate of the number of public school students in eighth grade.
