NAEP Technical DocumentationLong-Term Trend School Sample Selection for Private Schools With Unknown Characteristics

Only limited information was available for a large number of private schools on the Private School Survey frame. In all of these cases, school affiliation was unknown, as were enrollment sizes. However, the schools' locations were known and 803 of these schools were contained in the sampled primary sampling units (PSUs). Three independent samples of size 30 each were selected from this set of 803 schools (one for each age: 9, 13, and 17). The relative measure of size was proportional to the inverse of the PSU probability of selection.
