Summaries of Item-Level Response Rates for NAEP Assessments

The interpretability of results depends, to a large extent, on the quality of data collected. Initial activities serve to ensure that only valid data go through the estimation process. Specifically, the purposes of initial activities are to

  • verify the accuracy of data used in analysis;
  • provide an indication of aspects of the data and analysis requiring special attention; and
  • provide starting values for the scaling of NAEP items.

The links from this page detail each step taken during the initial analysis stage and its role in assuring the quality of the data.
