Major Findings

  • Approximately three-fourths (76 percent) of participating fourth-graders read the excerpt with four or fewer meaning-change errors. In other words, they read at least 98 percent of the words either exactly as in the printed text or with only non-meaning-change errors.additional information
  • Approximately, 17 percent read with between 5 and 10 meaning-change errors (95-97 percent accuracy).
  • Approximately 7 percent of the students read with 11 or more meaning-change errors.
