Technology and Engineering Literacy (TEL): Information for Parents

Using input from game developers, cognitive researchers, and students, a groundbreaking computer-based assessment has been developed that will reveal what eighth-grade students know about technology and engineering. Find out what the NAEP Technology and Engineering Literacy assessment measures.

The TEL assessment was administered throughout the country in early 2014 and featured three-dimensional scenario-based tasks that include video, audio, and interactive simulations. In addition to these scenario-based tasks, students also completed short-answer and multiple-choice questions. See a video about the assessment.

This innovative, interactive assessment will help teachers and parents understand more about how students use what they know about technology to solve problems, communicate with others, and learn more about the world around them. Read more about the assessment.
