1) Updates to Federal Government Race/Ethnicity Standards

On March 28, 2024, the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs published the results of a review of Statistical Policy Directive No. 15: Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity (SPD 15) led by the U.S. Chief Statistician’s office, and issued updated standards for collecting and reporting race and ethnicity data across Federal agencies. SPD 15 provides minimum standards that ensure the Federal government’s ability to compare information and data across Federal agencies, and also to understand how well Federal programs serve our diverse America. The updated standards are available in the Federal Register. The Department of Education will thoroughly review the updated SPD 15 and begin developing an Action Plan that will allow us to implement the updated standards as effectively and as soon as possible, and we will continue to keep the public and our stakeholders updated. NCES must adhere to the categories in SPD-15.

2) Blog Post Discussing IPEDS Data Tools

NCES has recently shared a blog post discussing data tools available for use in retrieving IPEDS data and the considerations for using the various tools. The post reviews the multiple tools available for use and the benefits of using different tools for different purposes.
