Table 10. Number of institutions, number and percentage reporting differing in-district and in-state tuition and required fees, and average and difference in academic year tuition and required fees and cost of attendance for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking resident undergraduates at Title IV public 2-year institutions operating on an academic year calendar, by student housing: United States, academic year 2020–21 | |||||||

1For public institutions, “in-district” refers to the charges paid by a student who lives in the locality surrounding the institution, such as county.
2On-campus average cost is based on those institutions that offer on-campus housing and/or meal service.
3Off-campus average cost is based on those institutions that do not require full-time, first-time students to live on-campus.
NOTE: Title IV institutions are those with a written agreement with the U.S. Department of Education that allows the institution to participate in any of the Title IV federal student financial assistance programs. United States includes the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Percentages in the "Percent" column of this table use the corresponding count in the "All institutions" column as the denominator. Cost of attendance includes tuition and required fees, room and board charges, books and supplies, and other expenses. Costs are average institutional costs, not average amounts paid by students (i.e., charges are not weighted by enrollment). These figures for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates differ from the data in tables 5 and 6 that apply to all full-time undergraduates. Institutions with academic calendars that differ by program or allow continuous enrollment are not included in this table. Detail may not subtract to difference displayed because of rounding. Definitions for terms used in this table may be found in the collection year’s archived downloadable glossary located at https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/use-the-data/annual-survey-forms-packages-archived?year=2020.
