NOTE: Title IV institutions are those with a written agreement with the Secretary of Education that allows the institution to participate in any of the Title IV federal student financial assistance programs. Although they are not Title IV eligible, four of the U.S. service academies are included in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) universe because they are federally funded and open to the public. New hires include full-time permanent staff who were included on the payroll of the institution between July 1 and October 31, 2011, either for the first time (new to the institution) or after a break in service AND who are still on the payroll of the institution as of November 1, 2011. New hires do not include persons who have returned from sabbatical leave or full-time staff whose primary function is instruction combined with research and/or public service working less-than-9-month contracts/teaching periods. New hires are included in the counts of all staff.
