School Fiscal Reports
In response to a growing demand, NCES developed a new collection of finance data at the school level. Policymakers, researchers, and the public have long voiced concerns about the equitable distribution of school funding within and across school districts. School-level finance data addresses the need for reliable and unbiased measures that allow for comparison of how resources are distributed among schools within local districts.
The development of the School-Level Finance Survey (SLFS) comports with the Department of Education mission to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering education excellence and ensuring equal access. The SLFS is an extension of two existing collections being conducted by NCES in collaboration with the Census Bureau: the School District Finance Survey (F-33) and the state-level National Public Education Financial Survey (NPEFS). The SLFS is essentially an expansion of the F-33 to include identical variables at the school level.
