Administrative Data Collections at NCES

The Administrative Data Division at NCES collects data from all state and local K-12 education agencies and from all postsecondary schools or institutions of higher education. Administrative data at NCES is organized by collections, which report on several different kinds of educational data that are of interest to the public, education professionals, researchers, and policymakers. The five main data collections are listed below, along with a table that provides links to the most recent data available and a schedule of upcoming releases.

Non-Fiscal Common Core of Data (CCD Non-Fiscal)
The Non-Fiscal Common Core of Data is a comprehensive, annual, national database of all public elementary and secondary schools and school districts. It includes data on school types, enrollment, demographics, and more.

Fiscal Common Core of Data (CCD Fiscal)
The Fiscal Common Core of Data is a centralized repository of information on the revenues and expenditures of public elementary and secondary schools, school districts, and state departments of education.

Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System collects data on postsecondary education in the United States in eight areas: institutional characteristics; institutional prices; admissions; enrollment; student financial aid; degrees and certificates conferred; student persistence and success; and institutional resources including human resources, finances, and academic libraries.

Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems Survey (SLDS)
The Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems Survey (SLDS)reports on the types of data that are included in state education agencies' statewide longitudinal data systems (SLDSs), how they use SLDS data to inform policy, and the capacity of their SLDSs for automated linking of K-12 student data to other data, including teacher, postsecondary, workforce, Perkins career and technical education (CTE), and early childhood data.

Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates (EDGE)
The Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates program uses data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey to create indicators of social, economic, and housing conditions for school-age children and their parents. It also uses spatial data collected by NCES and the Census Bureau to create geographic locale indicators, school point locations, school district boundaries, and other types of data to support spatial analysis.
