NOTE: Table excludes regular schools for which no students were reported in membership. U.S. totals include the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The mean is the average. If all schools were ranked by size from the smallest to largest, half of the schools would fall below the median. For example, dividing the total number of students by the total number of schools yields an average school size of 549 (mean) while half of the schools in the United States have 457 or fewer students (median). The percentile indicates what percent of cases a value exceeds; for example, 10 percent of schools have fewer than 138 students.
