NCES 2015337 Public School Teacher Attrition and Mobility in the First Five Years: Results From the First Through Fifth Waves of the 2007–08 Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study
This First Look report provides selected findings from all five waves of the Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study (BTLS) along with data tables and methodological information. The BTLS follows a sample of public elementary and secondary school teachers who participated in the 2007-08 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS), and whose first year of teaching was 2007 or 2008. The BTLS sample includes teachers who leave teaching in the years after the SASS data collection and those who continue to teach either in the same school as the last year or in a different school. The purpose of the Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study is to provide a better understanding of the impact that different life events have on teachers careers (such as getting married, moving to a new location, or starting a family). It will also provide some insight on how school and/or district characteristics and policies affect teacher satisfaction, and how teachers respond to transitions in their lives and careers (such as moving to a different school, changing the grade levels or subject taught, becoming a mentor, transitioning into a K-12 administration position, or exiting the teaching field). The study will contribute to policymakers' understanding of teachers and of teachers' careers as they enter, leave, or re-enter the teaching workforce and make important career and life decisions.

NCES 2015059 Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study (BTLS) Waves 1-5 Restricted-Use Data File and Documentation
This restricted-use CD includes the combined wave 1 through wave 5 data file, questionnaires, codebook, file layout, and Userís Manual. The data files are in SAS and ASCII formats, with syntax for creating files in SPSS and STATA. The codebook contains the count of responses for each data item. The User's Manual explains the survey methodology and provides other information about the structure and content of the data file.

NCES 2015010 Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2013: U.S. Technical Report
This technical report is designed to provide researchers with an overview of the design and implementation of the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2013. This information is meant to supplement that presented in OECD publications by describing those aspects of TALIS 2013 that are unique to the United States.

Chapter 2 provides information about sampling requirements and sampling in the United States. Chapter 3 provides information on instrument development. Chapter 4 describes the details of how schools and teachers were recruited, and Chapter 5 describes field operations used for collecting data. Chapter 6 describes participation rates at the school and teacher level. Chapter 6 also includes nonresponse bias analysis (NRBA) results for unit-level and item-level response rates (details of the NRBA are provided in appendix E). Chapter 7 describes international activities related to data processing, and weighting. Chapter 8 describes the data available from both international and U.S. sources. Chapter 9 discusses some special issues involved in analyzing the TALIS 2013 U.S. data because of response rates below the international TALIS standards (as described in chapter 6) and also includes selected data tables from the international TALIS report. In addition, the technical report includes all recruitment materials used during the conduct of the study, the U.S. versions of the TALIS questionnaires, and a complete list of all adaptations made to the questionnaires.

This First Look report provides some selected findings from the 2012-13 Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) along with data tables and methodological information. The TFS is a follow-up of a sample of the elementary and secondary school teachers who participated in the previous yearís Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS). The TFS sample includes teachers who leave teaching in the year after the SASS data collection and those who continue to teach either in the same school as last year or in a different school. The purpose of the Teacher Follow-up Survey is to determine how many teachers remained at the same school, moved to another school or left the profession in the year following the SASS administration.

This report describes the methodology and findings of the B&B:08/09 data collection, which included a student interview, a transcript data collection, and an administrative data records match.

NCES 2014002 Who Considers Teaching and Who Teaches? First-Time 2007–08 Bachelorís Degree Recipients by Teaching Status 1 Year After Graduation (NCES 2014-002)
This Statistics in Brief examines the teaching status of 2007-08 first-time bachelorís degree recipients one year after graduation. The analysis compares four groups with respect to their teaching experiences or interest in teaching: those who taught either before or after receiving their bachelorís degree, those who prepared to teach but had not taught, those who considered teaching, and those who did not consider teaching. The study is based on data from the 2009 Baccalaureate and Beyond longitudinal study (B&B:09) of bachelorís degree recipients conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics.

This DVD contains the 2011-2012 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) restricted-use data files. The 8 files (Public School District, Public School Principal, Public School, Public School Teacher, Public School Library Media Center, Private School Principal, Private School, and Private School Teacher) are provided in multiple formats. The DVD also contains a 6-volume User's Manual, which includes a codebook for each file.

WWC SSR219 WWC Review of the Report "Enhancing the Efficacy of Teacher Incentives through Loss Aversion: A Field Experiment"
The study examined whether offering different types of monetary incentives to teachers affected students' math achievement. Researchers analyzed student and teacher data from nine K-8 public schools in Chicago Heights, Illinois in 2010-11. Within each of the nine participating schools, 147 teachers were randomly assigned to one of four intervention groups that represented different incentive strategies (individual loss aversion, team loss aversion, individual gain, and team gain) or a comparison group that received no incentives. Researchers examined the effect of each type of incentive strategy group by comparing the test scores of students whose teachers were in one of the intervention groups to those of students whose teachers were in the comparison group.

NCES 2012306 2011-12 Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Brochure
The Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study (BTLS) is a study of a group of public school teachers who began teaching in 2007 or 2008. The study has followed this cohort for four 4 years. The 2011-12 year is the fifth and final year.

The information gathered will permit a better understanding of how beginning teachers respond to different transitions. These transitions might include life transitions (i.e., changes in marital status, moving, having children) or career transitions (i.e., moving to a different school, teaching a different grade or subject, becoming a mentor, exiting teaching to pursue a nonteaching career).

BTLS is the only study that follows beginning teachers from all around the United States. The unique value of this study comes from having information about the same people collected over time, those who provided data about their first year of teaching in Schools and Staffing Survey in 2007-08. The sample for this study was selected to be representative of the entire population of public school teachers who began teaching in 2007 or 2008.
