NCEE 2025004 The Implementation of Title I and Title II-A Program Initiatives: Compendium of Survey Results From 2021–22
The Title I and Title II-A programs of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provide funds meant to help schools and districts better serve low-income students and improve teacher and principal quality. The law's latest update, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), was passed in 2015 and provides more flexibility to states on some dimensions. This compendium describes the methods, response rates, and weights used for surveys of state, district, and school personnel about implementation of Title I and Title II-A program initiatives during the 2021–22 school year. It also includes detailed tables, based on the surveys, that provide a national picture of policies and practices.

NCES 2024311 FY 2022 School District Finance Survey Data, School Year 2021-22 (NCES 2024-311)
The School District Finance Survey (F–33) provides finance data for all local education agencies (LEAs) that provide free public elementary and secondary (prekindergarten through grade 12) education in the United States. The School District Finance Survey data file does not include national and state totals. The file includes variables for revenues by source, expenditures by function and object, indebtedness, assets, student membership counts, as well as identification variables. The file includes the following finance data: • Current expenditure totals for local education agencies (LEAs); • Federal, state, and local revenues for LEAs; • Current expenditure totals and current expenditure per pupil amounts by activity (e.g., instruction, support services) and specific expenditure (e.g., salaries and wages, employee benefits) for LEAs in each state; • Federal revenues received by LEAs, by program and state; • Local revenues by source, by LEA and state; and • Capital outlay expenditures by LEA and state.

On May 7, 2024, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) will release Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary Education: School Year 2021–22 (Fiscal Year 2022). This first look report presents state-level data on revenues by source and expenditures by function and object for public elementary and secondary education for school year 2021–22. The tables present data submitted annually to NCES by state education agencies in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and other jurisdictions.

NCES 2023115 Highlights of PISA 2022 U.S. Results
This web report provides key comparative information on the reading, mathematics, science, and financial literacy performance of 15-year-old students in the United States and 80 other participating education systems. The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and focuses on students as they are nearing the end of compulsory schooling. PISA is conducted every 3 years, with 2022 being the latest round.

In PISA 2022, the major domain was mathematics literacy, although reading, science, and financial literacy were also assessed. In addition to national average scores, PISA also provides insight into the percentage of students who reach each of the PISA proficiency levels.

This publication includes tables with data on public elementary and secondary education revenues and expenditures at the local education agency (LEA) or school district level for fiscal year (FY) 2021. Specifically, the tables include finance data on the following topics:

  • Federal, state, and local revenues for the 100 largest LEAs;
  • Median revenues per pupil and median current expenditures per pupil by geographic region and locale;

NCES 2023466 2019–20 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:20): First Look at Student Financial Aid Estimates for 2019–20
This First Look publication provides the first results of the 2019–20 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:20), the most comprehensive national study of student financing of postsecondary education in the United States. This report includes information for about 80,800 undergraduate students and 19,700 graduate students attending 2,200 postsecondary institutions in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This report describes the percentages of students receiving various types of financial aid and average amounts received, by type of institution attended, gender, race/ethnicity, attendance pattern, and income level. Percentages and average amounts are additionally described by dependency status for undergraduate students and by graduate program for graduate students. Supplemental tables feature state-level percentages of students receiving aid and average amounts received by undergraduate students.
