This Week In IPEDS (TWII)
There are three items this week:
- Collection Schedule for 2018-19
- Custom Comparison Groups for the 2018 Data Feedback Report
- NCES Postsecondary Surveys Brochure
1. Collection Schedule for 2018-19
The schedule for the 2018-19 IPEDS collection cycle has been posted at the IPEDS Data Provider Center
(https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/)
and is also accessible via the Help menu in the data collection system and the following link: https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/ViewContent.aspx?contentId=21.
2. Custom Comparison Groups for the 2018 Data Feedback Report
Create or update your institution's custom comparison group for your annual Data Feedback Report (DFR), a benchmarking tool to compare your institution's IPEDS data with your peers. The DFR is emailed to IPEDS Keyholders and Coordinators, before a copy is sent to the CEO/President. Expect the DFR to be delivered soon after the 2017-18 provisional data are released. If a custom comparison group is not created, a NCES-created comparison group will be used as a default group. While creating a custom comparison group is not required, a customized group may make the DFR more useful for your campus leaders. The deadline for creating your customized comparison group is July 13, 2018.
For detailed instructions on how to make changes, log into the IPEDS Data Collection System and click on the Custom Comparison Groups under the Help menu. For additional assistance in creating and/or uploading your institution's custom comparison group contact the IPEDS Data Use Help Desk (866 558-0658 or ipedstools@rti.org).
3. NCES Postsecondary Surveys Brochure
NCES has recently produced and published a new brochure. This is one in a series of brochures designed to inform data users (e.g., researchers, policy makers, members of the media, the general public, etc.) about the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and other NCES surveys.
Title IV institutions participate in any of the Title IV federal student financial aid programs administered by the office of Federal Student Aid (FSA). Through several postsecondary data collections, NCES gathers information about where and how the aid is distributed and whether it had an impact on student outcomes. This NCES Postsecondary Surveys Brochure describes: the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS), and Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B) collections. You can find the brochure at https://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2017136 or under "Data Products" on the "Publications and Products" page.
