Data Products—Help

If you wish to obtain SASS or TFS public-use data files and run your own analyses using statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, or Stata, we recommend that you use the online Education Data Analysis Tool (EDAT) or direct data downloads for three cycles of SASS and TFS (1987-88 through 1994-95). Data files for SASS and TFS surveys prior to 1999-2000 and 2000-01 are available on the Data Matrix page and contain:

  • File Documentation
  • SASS and TFS data files
  • Record layout files
  • Data file userís manuals, which include important information for users
  • Survey Questionnaires

Users may download documentation for the 1999-2000 SASS and 2000-01 TFS on the Data Products page. Data files for SASS and TFS surveys since 1999-2000 and 2000-01 are only available as restricted-use data files. For information about the restricted-use license application, click here.

View/Download Data

  • Flat files are ASCII text files that contain no formatting and have no column headers. They are convenient to use with statistical processing programs such as SPSS or SAS.
  • Text files are ASCII text files with a minimum of formatting and can be read like flat files in text viewers (e.g., Notepad).
  • The general documentation file includes the record layout and the survey form.
  • For information on unzipping files click here.
  • For more information on viewing PDF files.
