Two types of assessment items are included in CivEd: content items, and skills items. The five items below are examples of content items. Below each item, the percent of U.S. ninth-grade students who answered the item correctly is indicated:

Out of the 38 assessment items in the student instrument, 25 measure civic content, and 13 measure civic-related skills.
