The current schedule for PIRLS 2016 is as follows:
- Spring 2016: Data collection in schools across the United States
- Summer 2016: Data scoring and coding
- Fall 2016: Initial data submission to the IEA
- Winter 2016: Data review and cleaning
- Spring 2017: Data calibration, scaling, and weighting
- Summer 2017: Data review by participating countries
- December 2017: Data release
