This set of Web Tables is the second in a series of four that together provide key information about first-time postsecondary students' characteristics and their 3-year retention, persistence, attainment, withdrawal, stopout, and transfer rates. This particular set of Web Tables presents 3-year retention and attainment rates at the first institution students attended for all 2011–12 first-time postsecondary students and for students beginning at institutions of different control (i.e., public, private nonprofit, and for-profit) and level (e.g., less-than-2-year, 2-year, 4-year). The tables indicate the percentages of 2011–12 first-time postsecondary students who attained a certificate, an associate's degree, or a bachelor's degree by spring 2014 at the institution where they first enrolled. If they had not attained a credential at the first institution, these tables specify whether they were still enrolled at the first institution, had enrolled at a different institution, or had not enrolled at any institution after leaving the first institution.

The final set of Web Tables, entitled First-Time Postsecondary Students in 2011–12: Three-Year Withdrawal, Stopout, and Transfer Rates (https://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2016139), presents the year-by-year cumulative rates at which first-time students withdrew from postsecondary education without a degree and the rate at which students stopout or transfer.

The PIAAC 2012/14 U.S. RUF contains individual unit record data including both responses to the background questionnaire and the cognitive assessment from both the first and second U.S. PIAAC data collections, completed in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Statistical disclosure control treatments were applied due to confidentiality concerns. In addition to the variables in the PUF (NCES 2014-667), the RUF contains detailed versions of variables and additional data collected through U.S. specific questionnaire routing. The RUF can be accessed through a restricted use license agreement with the National Center for Education Statistics. Information is presented on meeting PIAAC consortium requirements, sample design, listing materials and procedures, data collection, reducing the risk of data disclosure, the need for conducting a nonresponse bias analysis, weighting and variance estimation, data preparation and processing, as well as data quality, IRT analyses, and population modeling. The appendices of the Technical Report include basic analysis tables, extended analysis tables; PIAAC 2012/2014 weighted item response rates, NRBA technical notes, and data user guidance.

The 2012/14 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS:12/14) restricted-use data file contains data on a nationally representative sample of students who began postsecondary education for the first time in the 2011–12 academic year. These students were first surveyed as part of the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study and BPS:12/14 is the first follow-up of these students three years later in 2014. These record-level data allow users to explore topics related to persistence, attainment, and retention in postsecondary education over three academic years, from 2011–12 to 2013–14.

|NCES 2015119||Performance of Fourth-Grade Students in the 2012 NAEP Computer-Based Writing Pilot Assessment
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) conducted a computer-based pilot writing assessment at grade 4 in 2012, based on the 2011 NAEP writing framework. A key question that this pilot assessment was designed to answer was whether or not fourth-graders could fully demonstrate their writing ability on a computer.
To address this question, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducted the present study. Approximately 10,400 fourth-graders from about 510 schools (420 public and 90 private) composed responses to writing tasks reflecting three purposes of writing: to persuade or change the reader’s point of view, to explain or broaden the reader’s understanding of a topic, and to convey an experience—real or imaginary. Fulfillment of these purposes of writing required students to bring forth target skills related to language facility, development of ideas, and organization of ideas. The schools and students participating in this pilot assessment were selected to be representative of all schools nationally.
In addition to the 2012 NAEP grade 4 pilot writing assessment data, this report also refers to the findings of a small-scale usability study conducted in 2011, as well as the 2010 NAEP grade 4 paper-based pilot writing assessment and the 2011 NAEP grade 8 and 12 computer-based writing assessments.

|NCES 2015136||The Nation’s Report Card: 2015 Mathematics and Reading Assessments
This online report presents results from the NAEP 2015 mathematics and reading assessments. The report includes national, state and Trial Urban District Assessment (TUDA) results on the performance of fourth- and eighth-grade students. The TUDAs are 21 large urban school districts that obtain NAEP results at the district level. Results are presented in terms of average scale scores and as percentages of students performing at the three NAEP achievement levels: Basic, Proficient, and Advanced. In addition to overall scores, results are reported by racial/ethnic groups, by gender, and by type of school. The 2015 trend in national average mathematics scores show a decline at both grades since the last assessment in 2013. Average scores for reading in 2015 declined at grade 8; there was no significant change in the reading score for fourth-grade students. Over the long term, however, scores were higher in 2015 in both subject and grades compared to the initial assessments in the early 1990s.
|NCER 20162000||A Compendium of Math and Science Research Funded by NCER and NCSER: 2002–2013
Between 2002 and 2013, the Institute of Education Sciences (Institute) funded over 300 projects focused on math and science through the National Center for Education Research (NCER) and the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER). Together, researchers funded by NCER and NCSER have developed or tested more than 215 instructional interventions (e.g., packaged curricula, intervention frameworks, and instructional approaches), 75 professional development programs, 165 educational technologies, and 65 assessments in math and science. NCER commissioned the development of this compendium with the intent to present information in a structured, accessible, and usable manner. This compendium organizes information on the NCER and NCSER projects into two main sections: Mathematics and Science. Within each section, projects are sorted into chapters based on content area, grade level, and intended outcome. The compendium also includes multiple appendices and an index to help readers locate specific types of information (e.g., projects that focus on English language learners, specific interventions).
