Peter Hill is Professor of Education (Leadership and Management) at The University of Melbourne and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education. He is also chair of the Board of Directors of the Australian Principals Centre and Director of the Centre for Applied Educational Research at The University of Melbourne.

Professor Hill has worked extensively in state education systems and was formerly Chairperson of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board and Chief General Manager of the Department of School Education in Victoria. The latter position involved overall responsibility for more than 2,000 schools, 52,000 teachers and other staff.

Professor Hill's current interests include research into educational effectiveness and improvement, school funding arrangements, educational assessment and strategic planning in education. He has contributed over a three-year period to the work of the Education Committee established by the Minister for Education in Victoria to advise on policies for the funding of Government schools.
