NOTE:  Table excludes regular schools for which no students were reported in membership. U.S. totals include the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The mean is the average. If all schools were ranked by size from the smallest to largest, half of the schools would fall below the median. For example, dividing the total number of students by the total number of schools yields an average school size of 546 (mean) while half of the schools in the United States have 458 or fewer students (median). To interpret percentiles, understand that 10 percent of the schools have fewer than 136 students, 25 percent have fewer than 280 students, and so forth.
