NOTE:  Instructional levels are Primary (low grade Prekindergarten to 3, high grade up to 8); Middle (low grade 4 to 7, high grade 4 to 9); High (low grade 7 to 12, high grade 12 only); Other (any configuration not falling within the previous three, including ungraded schools). For states that did not provide a grade span, grade span was determined by the highest and lowest grades in which students were reported. Table excludes 2,654 schools (21 in outlying areas) for which no students were reported in membership. U.S. totals include the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Percentages may not add to 100 because of rounding.
